Ole & Steen are a Danish bakery – right here in London! Grab one of our visits to try one of their many food goodies, as well as a barista-made drink, to discover what great quality all the way from Denmark tastes like. Their food and drink offering is a real treat, and the fun doesn’t stop there!
It began in 1991, where the two bakers responsible for Ole & Steen first opened their businesses – separately! Ole Kristoffersen opened a bakery with his girlfriend in Copenhagen, while Steen Skallebae opened his first bakery in West Denmark. Ole is a third-generation baker, and Steen became known for “Rugbrød” and “Rundstykker”, which we now know as the rye breads and small rolls Ole & Steen are loved for. With two baking powerhouses, they decided to join forces in 2008 in pursuit of quality. Now, they have bakeries in Denmark, New York, and all over London!
Along with creating tasty pastries and breads made the Danish way, Ole & Steen are committed to minimising their amount of food waste. In order to achieve this, they bake fresh every morning with the goal of making just what they need for the day. But their work doesn’t just stop at the amount they put out – they encourage revival, offering a simple recipe on their website for turning any baked goods that are past their best into rye crisps!
