As we cast our minds back to last year, it’s crazy to think that Mother’s Day was the day before the UK officially went into lockdown, and just two days after hospitality was forced to close its doors. Although restrictions were in place, you could still meet outdoors in groups, which saw many families celebrate with a walk. One year on, with the UK in lockdown 3.0 and full restrictions in place, we wanted to see if our mystery guests have made any plans for Mother’s Day 2021.
Although, hospitality isn’t set to re-open until April 12th at the earliest, 4 weeks after Mother’s Day, 18% of guests plan to celebrate a belated Mother’s Day in April, with outdoor dining.
For those who just can’t wait, 18% plan to get a takeaway. When we asked whether guests would consider ordering from a Mother’s Day specials takeaway menu, 53% said yes. Let’s hope your local pub/restaurant is planning something!
For those already in the same household, 53% plan to cook a roast, no doubt finished off with a walk, which sounds like a great day to us! Surprisingly, no-one said they would be celebrating virtually.
In terms of how plans have differed over the last year compared to pre-pandemic, unsurprisingly, 65% said they would usually head out for a meal and 18% said they would normally enjoy a full day out. This just goes to show how much the hospitality industry will be missing out this year but is indicative of the amount of willing and waiting guests who will be straight back out there when restrictions ease. Fingers crossed for April 12th and we hope you have a great Mother’s Day!
